The CH-46 Sea Knight is a twin-engine, tandem rotor medium-lift transport helicopter that served with the U.S. Marine Corps and U.S. Navy for over five decades. Known as the "Phrog" for its appearance, it was the Marines' primary assault helicopter for many years. The Sea Knight was used extensively in Vietnam, as well as in other conflicts like Desert Storm and Operations Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom. It was eventually replaced by the MV-22 Osprey.
A total of 624 Boeing Vertol CH-46 Sea Knight helicopters were built for the U.S. Marine Corps and Navy. This number includes the A, D, and F variants. The production spanned from 1962 to 1971.
