The North American T-6 Texan is a classic American single-engine advanced trainer aircraft, famously known as the "pilot maker" for its role in training pilots during World War II and beyond. While officially the T-6 Texan, it was known by various names depending on the operating force. The United States Army Air Corps (USAAC) and USAAF designated it as the AT-6, the United States Navy as the SNJ, and British Commonwealth air forces as the Harvard. A total of 15,495 North American T-6 Texans were built. They were manufactured by North American Aviation and other companies under license. This number includes all variants of the T-6 Texan, such as the AT-6, SNJ, and Harvard.
