This tartan pattern was designed by Sandra A. Redwood in 1983 as a more subdued version of the bright Cornish National which was created to commemorate the ancient kingdom of Cornwall in South West England. The yellow represents gold for the old Cornish kings, the red represents the beak and legs of the Cornish Cough (type of bird) and the blue represents the sea that surrounds Cornwall. The black and white represents St. Piran’s cross which is also represented in the same manner in the Cornish flag. The colours of the Cornwall Hunting are the same and represent the same elements but with the addition of green which is said to represent Cornish Wrestling, a centuries-old form of wrestling.
The Cornish Hunting tartan is a more modest tartan in comparison to the Cornish National which has made it a very popular tartan choice. Most clan Tartans primary patterns have very brightly coloured tartans and have hunting tartans which can be worn as an alternative. So the term “hunting” here refers to the fact that these tartans tend to be more muted in color, and has nothing to do with the actual usage of the tartan on Hunts. Please note we do not support modern-day Hunting of any kind.
I am Cornish myself and I grew up in Falmouth. I have always loved sewing and designing with Cornish Tartan and it was a main feature in my Final Degree Show while Studying for a BA Hons in Fashion and Textiles at University. My final degree collection called “Nostalgic Heritage” was highly commended at London Graduate Fashion Week and received more than great praise from designers and stylists!

These are high quality but not indestructible, please supervise your dog while wearing and do not allow to chew. Can be gently hand washed in cool water or spot washed.

While these are made to be good quality and hardwearing they are not indestructible and should be treated carefully. Do not allow dogs or small children to play these accessories as they are decorative and embellished and may contain small parts and trimmings that can be a choke hazard. Always use responsibly and watch your pets when they are wearing my decorative handmade items. Please be advised to remove pet jewellery, bandanas and other accessories before any particularly rough or muddy play. Not recommended for machine washing as Pompoms, Beads & Trimmings can be very delicate. These items can be gently spot washed by hand with warm water and soap for delicate wash items when needed.

Un tartán de caza tradicional de Cornualles bellamente coloreado con colores que representan la belleza del mar y la tierra.

Este patrón de tartán fue diseñado por Sandra A. Redwood en 1983 como una versión más tenue del brillante Cornish National que fue creado para conmemorar el antiguo reino de Cornualles en el suroeste de Inglaterra. El amarillo representa el oro de los antiguos reyes de Cornualles, el rojo representa el pico y las patas del Cornish Cough (tipo de ave) y el azul representa el mar que rodea Cornualles. El blanco y negro representa la cruz de San Piran, que también está representada de la misma manera en la bandera de Cornualles. Los colores de Cornwall Hunting son los mismos y representan los mismos elementos, pero con la adición de verde, que se dice que representa Cornish Wrestling, una forma de lucha centenaria.
