The Lockheed Martin F-35 Lightning II is a family of fifth-generation, stealthy, multirole combat aircraft designed for the U.S. and allied nations. It's a single-seat, single-engine supersonic fighter with advanced capabilities for air superiority, strike missions, electronic warfare, and intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance. The F-35 program aims to replace a variety of older fighter and strike aircraft in the inventories of the U.S. Air Force, Navy, Marine Corps, and allied forces. As of May 2025, over 1,170 Lockheed Martin F-35 Lightning II aircraft have been built. This includes all three variants: F-35A, F-35B, and F-35C. The F-35 program is ongoing, with production continuing to meet the needs of the US military and international partners.
