The Beechcraft Staggerwing, also known as the Model 17, is an iconic American biplane renowned for its distinctive design and performance. Unlike typical biplanes where the upper wing is ahead of the lower wing, the Staggerwing's upper wing is positioned behind the lower wing. This design choice was intended to enhance pilot visibility and potentially reduce drag, though the drag reduction effect was found to be negligible. The aircraft was powered by a powerful radial engine, typically a Pratt & Whitney R-985 Wasp Junior, providing excellent performance for its time. A total of 785 Beechcraft Model 17 Staggerwings were produced between 1933 and 1949. Approximately 200 of these aircraft still exist today, and about half of those are airworthy.
