History: Due to its harsh and unforgiving climate and terrain, you might think that Antarctica is home to very few species of wildlife. In reality, it’s home to many exceptionally adapted animals. Different species of Antarctic penguins, seals, and whales, for example, have adapted thick layers of body fat for insulation and protection against the cold temperatures and freezing waters of their habitat.
