The XXL “Sombrero” hammock: the essence of the Colombian hammock

The XXL “Sombrero” Hammock is one of the flagship products of the range. It stands out for its ethnic design, inspired by ancestral symbols from the pre-Columbian era.

In Colombia it is common to say that the more complex the design, the more valuable the hammock . These are mostly ethnic geometric figures. The fringes are made of crochet fabric and they adorn sombreros.

To complete your relaxation space, we recommend that you combine this hammock with our XL "Tumaco" chair hammock . A similar style, for a coordinated and harmonious atmosphere.

The history of the Latino hammock

A subject that is still debated, but everything suggests that the first hammocks saw the light of day in the culture of the indigenous peoples of the Caribbean, and later in the Mayan culture. They used a fiber obtained from the bark of the tree trunk called “hamack”. Mexican hammocks are still made of mesh, as was the case with the first hammocks.

They then spread across part of Central America, including Guatemala, El Salvador and Honduras. Different indigenous groups, such as the Incas and other Mesoamerican cultures, often traded the hammock as an object of value, adopting and adapting it according to their needs and material conditions.

Ethical and responsible production

Hamac del Sol is a company committed to fair trade and the promotion of sustainable development. We have implemented an ethical charter which aims to respect social and environmental standards, as well as to guarantee fair remuneration for local artisans. The indigenous communities of the region, notably the Zenú, transmit ancestral know-how for the manufacture of our entire Colombian collection, which is produced by the same workshop.

By purchasing this high-end hammock, you are helping to preserve the manufacturing tradition of an entire people. It is also a way of opposing industrial products which today represent more than 80% of the hammock market.

Spend the night in your hammock

With this 1.80 meter wide hammock, spending a comfortable night under the stars can be a great idea. However, we recommend that you make sure that it is not too close to the ground. If the hammock is too low, you may feel cold during the night or when you wake up. To remedy this, we advise you to place a mat under the hammock. A very practical solution is to wrap yourself in a sheet or blanket.
