Authentic hand-made Colombian hammock
Before the arrival of the “Conquistadors”, the indigenous peoples of Colombia weaved their own symbols on their hammocks. Among them, the Zenú are particularly famous. They were a warlike people, where women were used to fighting alongside men (some even reigned). Although they were eliminated for their fierce resistance by the conquerors, it was this same tenacity, especially among the women, that allowed the tradition of weaving to be maintained in San Jacinto. These exceptional women were able to resist, open their own businesses and ensure the survival of their families from generation to generation thanks to the sale of these fabulous hammocks.
XXL Premium “Cartagena” hammock: an exceptional hammock
This immense "double-sided" hammock, 1.80m wide, is made by hand with extra fine wire. Coming from fair trade, it is entirely "sculpted" on both sides. Only the Wayuu Indians and certain artisans from San Jacinto are capable of making this type of hammock because it requires a very specific manufacturing technique representing tens of additional hours compared to a premium single-sided hammock. Our Colombian artisans weave this hammock on a vertical loom, reflecting their interpretation of everyday life through different patterns and color palettes.
An extra comfortable high-end hammock for all spaces
Extra comfortable, it is the ultimate luxury hammock. Designed for indoors and outdoors, it is a dense fabric piece, made with lots of love and patience. Due to its 100% artisanal production, this hammock may have some imperfections. It is sure to have a prime location in your country, beach or main home. However, if you are hesitating between a hammock with spreader bars or a classic hammock like this one, we invite you to consult our comparison: hammock VS hammock with bars: The match
Origin of the hammock in Europe
Although Christopher Columbus familiarized Europe with the hammock by bringing it from Latin America, it is incorrect to attribute the paternity of this invention to him. Indeed, we find in the travel diary of Luttrell Psautier (in England) the existence of these objects before the discovery of the Americas on October 12, 1492. This manuscript dates approximately between 1330 and 1940.
